Stainless Steel Leveling Casters for Food Processing & Clean Rooms

Application guide — sizing, models and mounting advice from the manufacturer

In food processing, pharmaceutical and clean room environments the caster is a hygiene risk as well as a component. Plated brackets corrode, paint flakes into product, and a rough surface will not come clean. Our stainless steel leveling casters are built for daily wash-down and for equipment that has to be moved for cleaning and then stand solid while it runs.

Why fit a leveling caster to a food processing line?

Nothing to corrode and nothing to flake

The bracket is stainless rather than zinc-plated, so there is no plating to break down under detergents and no paint to flake into the process. That is the main reason food plants specify stainless casters rather than plated ones.

Designed to be washed down

A smooth stainless body and an easily cleaned wheel mean the caster can be part of the routine wash-down rather than an area that gets avoided.

Wheels off the floor while running

The pad takes the load and lifts the wheels clear, so the equipment stands on fixed feet during production and can still be rolled out for cleaning or changeover.

Moves equipment without breaking the clean area

Roll the line out to clean behind it, roll it back and re-level. No skates, no dismantling, no crates.

How to size it

Food and pharmaceutical equipment tends to be stainless and therefore heavier than the equivalent mild steel frame. Size on the filled weight of the machine, not the empty weight, and allow for product and wash-down equipment. Our stainless range covers 272 kg and 590 kg per caster, so a 1,000 kg filling machine on four casters sits comfortably on DCST-50F. A heavier 2,000 kg vessel or oven needs DCST-60F at 590 kg per caster, or a step up to our standard range with a stainless finish if the load exceeds that.

Note: we describe these casters as stainless steel wash-down products. We do not claim a specific hygiene or food-contact certification — tell us what your audit or customer specification requires and we will confirm what we can document.

Recommended models

Model Per caster Mounting Why it suits
DCST-50F 272 kg (600 lb) Top plate Standard food equipment, tables, filling machines
DCST-50S 272 kg (600 lb) Threaded stem Equipment with existing threaded sockets, no drilling
DCST-60F 590 kg (1,300 lb) Top plate Heavy stainless vessels, ovens and process equipment
DCST-60S 590 kg (1,300 lb) Threaded stem Heavy equipment with a threaded mounting point
DCP-100 120 kg (265 lb) Adjustable support with foot cup Light display and serving units in a hygiene-critical area

Wheel and bracket choice

Nylon is easy to clean, resists water and detergents, and does not absorb product. It is the usual choice for food and clean room equipment. Where a softer contact is needed to protect a delicate floor, discuss it with us — the trade-off is that softer compounds are harder to clean. If you have a specific requirement for your hygiene audit or your customer's specification, tell us and we will confirm what we can document.

Common mistakes

Frequently asked questions

Are your stainless steel casters suitable for food processing?

They are designed for it: a stainless bracket with no plating and no paint, an easily cleaned wheel, and a construction that stands up to routine wash-down. Tell us which detergents and temperatures you use and we will confirm suitability before you order.

What is the difference between a stainless caster and a zinc-plated one?

A stainless bracket has no coating to break down, so it does not corrode or flake in a wet environment. A zinc-plated bracket is cheaper and fine in a dry workshop, but in a wash-down area the plating fails and the corrosion starts underneath it.

How much load can a stainless leveling caster carry?

Our DCST range covers 272 kg and 590 kg per caster, in plate or threaded stem versions. If your equipment is heavier than that, contact us and we will discuss the best option.

Can you supply documentation for our hygiene audit?

We can supply CE declarations, our ISO 9001 certificate and RoHS statements. Tell us what your audit requires and we will confirm exactly what we can provide.

Next step

Tell us the equipment weight, how many casters you plan to fit, the mounting you have and the floor it runs on, and we will come back with a model, a price and a lead time. Need the geometry first? Request the 2D drawing and 3D model and we will send them once your mounting is confirmed. If you are still choosing, the leveling caster buyer’s guide walks through load calculation and materials, and the applications index lists every scenario we build for. Factory profile, certifications and commercial terms are on the leveling caster manufacturer in China page, with quantities, MOQ and payment terms on the wholesale & OEM terms page.
